Guiseley 0 Dover Athletic 4: Miller hero and villain as Guiseley are beaten

National League top scorer Ricky Miller could face a Football Association investigation after appearing to bite Guiseley defender Connor Brown during Dover Athletic's win at Nethermoor Park on Saturday.

Miller and Brown were involved in an off-the-ball exchange midway through the second half and the Dover striker appeared to move his head towards the Guiseley defender.

Referee Anthony Backhouse talked to both players, but decided against any punishment on the field, with Clark left remonstrating his disapproval.

Guiseley manager Adam Lockwood refused to comment on the incident as he awaits the referee’s report.

Miller scored a brace in the match to take his tally for the season to 34 goals.

The 28-year-old, who attracted a six-figure bid from Peterborough United in January, has had discipline problems this season and was returning from a two-game suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.

He was also sent off in the second game of the season against Boreham Wood for two cautions.

Despite the second-half incident, Miller was the star man on show. He fired home the opening goal on 17 minutes courtesy of a left-footed snap-shot and struck a post when lobbing Jonny Maxted in the second half.

That missed opportunity led to Dover’s second as Moses Emmanuel recycled the ball and his deep cross found Ricky Modeste waiting at the back post to nod in.

Miller then scored the third from the spot after tumbling in the box on 83 minutes.

However, the 28-year-old was not given a chance to claim the match ball as he was taken off with five minutes remaining and Dover won a second penalty in stoppage-time.

Ross Lafayette took over penalty taking duties and sent Guiseley goalkeeper Jonny Maxted the wrong way.

Lockwood was upset his defence had given Miller time and space to threaten.

The manager said: “Sometimes it’s fair play to him for creating that. At this level, you don’t get things easy and we have to give him credit for that.

“But we have to be disappointed with our defending when you get beat 4-0.”
