Will Hatfield’s first-half shot on the turn goal for Guiseley was cancelled out by Reece Thompson’s 30-yarder in the second half and Jake Skelton won it late on, firing home from inside the area.

It followed the 70th-minute dismissal of Guiseley captain Danny Lowe for apparently pushing Thompson’s face into the ground following a foul on the striker.

Guiseley chief Adam Lockwood said: “To lose to someone around us hurts. We have to move on quickly but we were well below what we expected despite having chances to win.

“We have to up the standards for the next game and credit Ferriby for beating us, they put in a good performance and we have not.”

Delighted opposite number Steve Housham responded: “I thought we were the better team throughout, especially in the second half. It was a massive three points. It was also a tremendous performance from the players.

“We need to build on this starting with Woking.”
