Guiseley conceded late at Nethermoor Park in the National League to draw 1-1 against Southport.

The Guiseley boss Mark Bower reacted to the draw: “It’s disappointing to draw so late on, it’s another point for us and it’s a good goal for Liam (Dickinson) as well.”

It was an even start for both sides but the deadlock was broken by Guiseley striker Liam Dickinson, who curled a free-kick into the goal.

The next chance again fell to the hosts, with Will Hatfield hitting a volley which sat up nicely for him wide.

Former Bradford City midfielder Gary Jones had Southport’s best chance of the half but his effort was easily saved by Guiseley keeper Steven Drench.

Southport started the second half strongly with Louis Almond striking the post that was followed by Andrai Jones firing narrowly wide.

Guiseley though nearly doubled their lead, when Dickinson threaded the ball through to Wayne Brooksby who saw his effort saved.

With only the goal advantage Guiseley were again close to a second, when Adam Boyes just failed to get contact with the ball with his head when he looked like he would score.

And with three minutes to go Almond rifled a shot past Drench to ensure the Merseyside based club left with something.
