Walshaw sets the benchmark

BLUE SQUARE NORTH: James Walshaw left the bench to score a hat-trick in seven minutes as Guiseley hit back from three goals down to claim a 4-3 victory against Droysden at Nethermoor.

The visitors looked to be heading for a comfortable win as they led 3-0 at the interval with goals from Dale Johnson, Ciaran Kileeney and Dan Gardner, but Guiseley, and Walshaw in particular, had different ideas.

Manager Steve Kittrick sent Walshaw and Danny Forrest into the fray with 20 minutes left and after Chris Senior’s 77th-minute strike, Walshaw pounced in the 79th, 82nd and 86th minutes, his first coming from the penalty spot. He also had an effort disallowed for offside and the pick of his goals was the winner, struck powerfully with his left foot.

Another hat-trick hero was Danny Holland for FC Halifax Town, who were 3-1 winners at Vauxhall Motors in an ill-tempered affair containing six cautions and a sending-off.

All Holland’s goals arrived in the first half and he was substituted a minute after the break. Jason St Juste’s shot was parried to Holland, who netted the first from close range, his second followed more good play from St Juste and his third followed a fumble by Scott Tynan.

Motors stepped up a gear in the second half and midfielder Scott Phelan scored against his old club with a long-range free-kick to make it 3-1 in the 51st minute. Motors’ Leighton McGivern was then dismissed for violent play.

Harrogate Town went down to a 5-2 defeat at Altrincham.

Playing with a strong wind at their backs, two goals from Damian Reeves gave the hosts an early lead before Paul Brayson’s penalty made it 2-1.

Early in the second half, Brayson equalised when he expertly chipped in Stephen Turnbull’s through ball.

However, two goals in three minutes ended Harrogate hopes.

Jack Redshaw scored at the back post from Nicky Clee’s free-kick, then Reeves scored in the 61st minute with a 30-yard shot.

With 15 minutes left, Reeves swept in Simon Richman’s cross.

EVO-STIK: Bradford Park Avenue could hardly have wished for a better start against Nantwich Town at Horsfall Stadium where they were three goals up in the opening 20 minutes and went on to win 3-1.

Tom Greaves took only two minutes to find the mark and the lead was doubled two minutes later when Town failed to clear a corner and Rob Brodie netted an own-goal. Nathan Hotte made it three with a 20- yard shot and although Dennis Sherriff scored a consolation goal just after the hour, Avenue were never in danger of defeat.

Stocksbridge Park Steels suffered a 5-1 thrashing at Stafford Rangers whose final two goals arrived just before the end. Scott Hogan scored their only goal in the 79th minute.

All three goals were scored in a four-minute spell at Whitby Town where Marine were 2-1 winners. Substitute Neil Harvey broke the deadlock for Marine in the 74th minute, Whitby equalised with an own-goal by Sam Barnes and Aaron Rey grabbed Marine’s winner.

Frickley Athletic held Northwich Victoria to a goalless draw with both sides reduced to 10 men after a 23rd-minute skirmish.
