It is six playing hours since Halifax last conceded a goal, although the Shaymen dropped down to third after a scrappy game at the Racecourse Ground.

Aspin said: “Any point away from home in this league is a good point. Wrexham’s a big club, they have a good following and they’re capable on their day of beating anyone in the league.

“It’s nice to get a clean sheet. We had a week where we conceded nine goals in three games and I think we’ve addressed that over the last couple of weeks.”

Scott McManus was responsible for the only chances of a cagey opening spell, one shot flying across goal and another straight at goalkeeper Andy Coughlin.

Andy Bishop squandered a great chance inside the area by skewing his shot wide before Wes York burst through on goal just before the break, but Matt Glennon reacted well to kick away his low shot.

Scott Boden’s cross then evaded Matty Pearson and Richard Peniket as Halifax started to get behind the Wrexham defence.

But the hosts made the better start to the second half, with Bishop hitting the bar from Johnny Hunt’s cross.

Wrexham broke down-field after a Halifax throw-in and produced the chance they had been waiting 87 minutes for only for the unmarked Elliott Durrell to scuff his shot six yards out from a fine cross.
