Bantams' recruit on why he rejected Millers
Rotherham United v Bradford City league two BRADFORD City striker Mark McCammon admits that he could easily have been lining up for Rotherham United in today's Yorkshire derby.
Millers manager Ronnie Moore attempted to hijack McCammon's loan move from Gillingham but the striker refused to break a promise to Bradford manager Peter Taylor.
"I was aware of Rotherham's interest but I had already agreed to join Bradford so I could not go back on my word," McCammon told the Yorkshire Post.
"I know Rotherham are pushing for promotion but I have the utmost respect for Peter Taylor and this is one of the biggest clubs in the division."
After two games for his new club, McCammon will be hoping to lead the attack against the Millers this afternoon at the Don Valley Stadium.
"We know it is not the best stadium and they will make it difficult but we are looking to get three points," he said.
"Our target until the end of the season is to finish as high as we can and then see where that takes us. After the poor start the club had, we just want to achieve something which would be a good thing going into next season."
Bradford have won two games out of four since Taylor's appointment and McCammon is one of five new players brought in to bolster the side.
Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Adam Bolder was the latest capture yesterday, on a one-month loan deal from Millwall, and he joins fellow recruits McCammon, Gavin Grant, Robbie Threlfall and Luke Oliver.
McCammon, who still has another year on his contract with Gillingham, previously spent two years with Doncaster Rovers and helped them win promotion to the Championship.
"I had a fantastic time at Doncaster, they have a good chairman and a great manager, and it was disappointing to leave," he recalled.
"But you have to make decisions in life and Doncaster were only willing to offer me another year's contract. I got a three-year deal at Gillingham and we won promotion."
McCammon is not ruling out the possibility of a permanent move to Valley Parade.
"Right now, I just needs games under my belt because it has been difficult with six or seven strikers competing for places at Gillingham. Maybe they will want to extend the deal? I will try my best and see how it goes."
