Bradford City 1 Accrington Stanley 1: Eastwood to rescue after Evans spot miss

FRUSTRATED Bradford City manager Stuart McCall was left to rue another wasted opportunity after Gareth Evans' late penalty miss cost two points.

Substitute Michael Boulding hit a post in stoppage time and Evans had an even later strike ruled out for handball as City drew for the eighth time.

In treacherous conditions, it was no surprise when City took the lead thanks to a stroke of luck.

Bantams goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, who handled well and produced two important second-half saves, sparked a quick counter with his throw to full-back Simon Ramsden and he moved the ball on to Michael Flynn, whose 21st-minute cross from the right was missed by striker James Hanson, but unlucky Stanley centre-half Phil Edwards drilled the ball into his own net from 14 yards.

Eastwood brilliantly pushed away a shot from winger John Miles and after Ian Dunbavin blocked Hanson's strike, former City man Michael Symes bagged an equaliser after 56 minutes.

The referee allowed play to continue despite a push by Robert Grant and with defenders flat-footed, Symes struck a curling shot from 18 yards.

McCall brought on new loan signing Simon Whaley and he fired just wide.

Dunbavin did well again to block Boulding's drive before City were gifted a penalty when Grant handled but Evans fired wide in front of the Kop.

Almost immediately, Grant was sent clear but Eastwood again came to City's rescue.
