Breaking: Owls striker heads to Charlton
Sheffield Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje has been loaned to Charlton Athletic for a month in a bid to play first team football and build match fitness.
The 28-year-old has made nine first team appearances for the Owls this season – all from the substitutes bench – and manager, Brian Laws, feels the player will benefit from a loan switch to the League One club.
Laws told swfc.co.uk "Akpo has struggled to get into the side this season and part of that is because we have had very few injuries to our strike force in the early part of the 2009/10 campaign so competition has been very strong.
"We all know that Akpo can be a real threat when he is on top form and I think a loan move could get him back to his best. Akpo will be with Charlton until mid-December and then we will be able to review the situation ahead of the festive fixtures."
Second-placed Charlton host Milton Keynes Dons (third) at the Valley today (Saturday) and Sodje could be in Phil Parkinson's matchday squad subject to paperwork being finalised.
The Greenwich-born player will be the second Sodje brother on the Addicks' squad list, joining defender Sam. He will also team up with former Owls team mate Deon Burton.
Akpo's 28-day loan is set to run until December 11.
