Doncaster Rovers 1 Bristol City 1: O'Driscoll calls on Rovers to 'be brave' and show more patience
DONCASTER Rovers converted a last-minute penalty through Billy Sharp to snatch a point after Jamie McAllister's foul on substitute James Coppinger.
Manager Sean O'Driscoll felt his side were good value for the draw and praised record signing Sharp for holding his nerve to beat former England goalkeeper David James from the penalty spot.
"I thought we were the better side by far in the first half. All the things you want your players to do we were doing." said O'Driscoll.
"But I was disappointed with the reaction from everybody – players and crowd – after they (Bristol City) scored.
"We weren't brave enough at times to show the patience we required. The crowd want us to smash it forward sometimes but if we're going to do that we might as well walk off the pitch because that's not the way we play.
"I thought they were difficult to break down and even more so after they had scored.
"People were grumbling about them time-wasting and I suppose they might say we would have done it as well. But I don't think we would have been at it only five minutes after we'd scored.
"We probably should have had a goal in the first half. I've got no complaints about the officials but when you look at the video it looks like the goalkeeper has clawed the ball back from over the line.
"It's another example where goal-line technology could help and I think everybody in the game would like to see it happen.
"Billy Sharp showed what he's made of with the equaliser from the penalty spot. There was a lot of pressure on him to score against the England goalkeeper in the last minute but he stuck it in like a man who was very determined."
Keith Millen, named as Robins boss on Thursday following Steve Coppell's shock resignation less than four months into the job, said: "If someone had asked me if I'd be satisfied with a point before the game I would have said yes."
