Forest Green 2 York City 1: Minstermen crash to defeat

A 2-1 LOSS at Forest Green Rovers was York City's fourth defeat in five games from which only one point and two goals have come, writes Malcolm Huntington.

What is of particular concern is that defeats by Ebbsfleet, Eastbourne, Barrow and Forrest Green have come against teams in the bottom six.

Most of the credit for York's fourth position must go to their defence as 15 of their victories have come by a single goal. But in the last month mistakes at the back have proved costly as the forwards have continued to struggle.

On Saturday two blunders cost goals. Ben Purkiss and Danny Parslow shared the blame for Forest Green's 22nd-minute opener, the ball not being cleared before Danny Powell chipped over Michael Ingham.

Levi Mackin had luck on his side as his 35th-minute shot was deflected in by David Brown but slack marking at Brown's free-kick saw Ollie Thorne score unchallenged for the winner.

"They were stronger than us in certain areas and our marking was poor for the goals", said York manager Martin Foyles, who described tomorrow's match against Salisbury as "a must-win situation".
