Hat-trick hero Beckford is going nowhere – McAllister

LEEDS United manager Gary McAllister insists that striker Jermaine Beckford will be staying at Elland Road.

Beckford, who scored a hat-trick in the Carling Cup victory over Chester City, is one of the hottest properties outside the Premier League and is under contract until 2010 with the League One club.

However, with some higher up the league keen to spend on a new striker before the August 31 transfer deadline, Leeds may yet have a big decision to make on his future.

McAllister said: "I'd be disappointed if I didn't have people interested in Jermaine – but we're trying to get things going at our place and he's one of our better players.

"He's on a lengthy contract and nobody will leave the club unless I want them to go. That's what the chairman has said to me so I trust him."

Beckford, who was playing non-league football with Wealdstone just over two years ago, scored 20 goals last season.

"He's come a long way very quickly," added McAllister. "The thing we are trying to get across to him is that quality players and goalscorers, repeat and repeat and repeat, they're not just one-season wonders."
