Huddersfield Town boss eyes middle ground to coax goals from Simpson

COVENTRY City striker Robbie Simpson has agreed to join Huddersfield Town in a £250,000 deal.

Manager Lee Clark is confident that the former Cambridge City player will score goals next season after spending the majority of his two years at the Ricoh Arena employed as a winger.

Simpson, who has signed a three-year contract with the Terriers, managed only seven goals in 71 appearances for the Championship club.

Clark said: "People who are looking at his recent goalscoring record need to realise that he has played 95 per cent of his games out of position for Coventry.

"Chris Coleman, who I know very well, prefers a 4-3-3 formation and Robbie has been out on the right wing – but he prefers playing through the middle – that is where he played for Cambridge and he scored a lot of goals.

"I have received recommendations from various different sources, who don't have a bad word to say about him," Clark added.

"Robbie will give us a physical presence in attack, he works very hard, and has a hammer of a right foot.

"I am looking forward to working with him."

Simpson is the third new signing of the summer for Town after the arrival of midfielder Antony Kay and defender Peter Clarke.

Hull City have granted veteran striker Dean Windass a benefit game following his departure to Darlington.

One of his former clubs, Aberdeen, will provide the opposition at the KC Stadium on Sunday August 9.

Former Sheffield United midfielder Curtis Woodhouse, now a professional boxer, has agreed to play part-time for non-league Harrogate Town.
