Leeds chairman Ken Bates says no to striker

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has revealed that Dougie Freedman will not be returning to Elland Road despite the striker being told he can leave Crystal Palace by manager Neil Warnock.

The veteran spent the final two months on loan with Leeds last season, helping the club reach the play-off final, and has been linked with a possible return throughout the summer.

However, Bates said: "Dougie did a good job for us but he is 35, is an East London boy, has got four kids and is happily married. So, he is obviously not going to move his family up here for what would only be a one or two-year contract.

"And it would not be fair to ask him to live in a hotel for 12 months. We have to look forward, not back. Our future is in youth."
