Luton Town 3 Rotherham United 0: Hatters pull off shock as Millers are dumped out
ROTHERHAM UNITED's poor record in the FA Cup continued as they were dumped out by non- league Luton Town on an embarrassing night at Kenilworth Road.
The Millers, who have won only one tie in the competition in seven years, were made to pay for their failure to finish off the Hatters in the first tie at Don Valley Stadium a fortnight ago, suffering their biggest defeat of the season.
Adam Newton fired the home side into a seventh-minute lead and Alan White doubled the advantage four minutes later when he headed in a free-kick from Kevin Nicholls.
Ex-Miller Rossi Jarvis headed off the line from Ian Sharps in the first minute, while Steven Brogan's deflected follow up had goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington scrambling to make a save, but Ronnie Moore's lacklustre side rarely threatened after that.
The dangerous Claude Gnakpa finished off a slick move with a crisp finish from 20 yards to all but settle the tie on 68 minutes.
Rotherham went close to a consolation goal when substitute Drew Broughton headed against the crossbar after a good run and cross from Gary Roberts but the Millers could have few complaints with their defeat to a hungrier Luton side.
The reward for the Blue Square Premier outfit is a trip to League One side Southampton in the third round.
