Oldham 0 Leeds United 2: Leeds in control for seventh away win
GOALS in each half from Neil Kilkenny and Luciano Becchio sealed a comfortable victory for Leeds United as the huge Yorkshire following were rewarded with a seventh away victory in the league.
Simon Grayson made four changes to the side that could only draw at Kettering in the FA Cup. Jermaine Beckford, Mike Grella and Robert Snodgrass were relegated to the bench, while Mike Doyle did not feature at all.
In came David Prutton, Sam Vokes, Max Gradel and Hogan Ephraim. Injury-ravaged Oldham were without the services of key midfield man Chris Taylor and influential centre-back Reuben Hazell. Striker Paul Heffernan, on loan from Doncaster Rovers, made his Oldham debut.
Joe Colbeck delivered a fiercely driven cross from the left on 10 minutes and Dean Furman headed wide of the target from eight yards.
Vokes had a great opportunity to put Leeds ahead just past the half-hour mark, but with only Darryl Flahavan to beat, he finished tamely.
Six minutes later though, Leeds were ahead when a piece of left-wing magic from Gradel allowed him to deliver a cross into the six- yard box where Kilkenny was on hand to steer the ball home
The second half saw Leeds sit back a little but the pressure that Oldham applied was easily dealt with. The second goal came on 82 minutes when another piece of Gradel magic, this time on the edge of the Oldham box, allowed him to free Becchio who, with his first touch since coming on as a 77th-minute substitute, slid the ball home with some aplomb.
