Swindon Town 1 Leeds United 3: McAllister hails win as his best yet

GARY McAllister hailed ten-man Leeds United's classy win at Swindon on Saturday as their best performance since he took over as manager of the Elland Road club last season.

Alan Sheehan saw red for a terrible tackle early on but Jermaine Beckford's brace and Neil Kilkenny's first goal of the season fired United to their third straight win, with Simon Cox responding for the well-beaten Robins.

And McAllister said: "That was as good a football performance as you will see, certainly the best since I've been manager.

"We had 10 men willing to fight and kick for each other and we played some excellent football.

"I've no complaints about the sending off – somebody could have been hurt badly.

"Alan knows I'm not happy."

Sheehan was shown a straight red card in the eighth minute for a crude lunge on Jon-Paul McGovern on the halfway line.

But Beckford handed Leeds a shock 22nd-minute lead when he fired in from close range after Robins defender Jerel Ifil had allowed Frazer Richardson's cross to slip under his foot.

Cox equalised for Swindon against the run of play on the stroke of half-time when he volleyed in Anthony McNamee's cross from five yards. But an incredible gaffe by Swindon goalkeeper Phil Smith gifted Leeds a 2-1 lead five minutes after the break, as he allowed Kilkenny's weak 35-yard free-kick to slip out of his grasp and trickle over the line.

Beckford sealed the win six minutes from the end when he raced clear onto substitute David Prutton's pass to coolly slot his 10th goal of the season past Smith.
