Tranmere Rovers v Huddersfield Town: No easy ride expected as Town look to continue promotion bid
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN manager Lee Clark aims to maintain the club's push for promotion tonight at Tranmere Rovers.
Unbeaten in nine games, the Terriers moved back into the League One play-off zone at the weekend courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Hartlepool United.
Tonight's opponents Tranmere are only two points clear of the relegation zone but, significantly, have lost just two of their last 10 games.
Clark says the Prenton Park club are looking strong again under Les Parry who stepped up from the position of physiotherapist to become manager after the departure four months ago of former England international John Barnes.
"Les Parry has come in and done a brilliant job," said Clark. "Whenever I have been to watch Tranmere, his desire and passion has been tremendous and he has got his side really fit.
"He has been at Tranmere a long time and they all respect him," Clark added. "Tranmere have a lot to fight for and they will fight hard because the man they have in charge will demand that. If they can't win games, they are not losing and Prenton Park is always a tough place to go."
The Terriers will be looking to complete a rapid hat-trick of away victories, after wins at Carlisle United and Hartlepool in the last seven days, before hosting local rivals Leeds United this weekend.
"I've been delighted with the last two performances," reflected Clark. "We have done everything we needed to in terms of showing grit and determination, which has allowed us to play some very good football at times."
Town's only injury concern ahead of the game surrounds defender Lee Peltier who was substituted after a heavy challenge against Hartlepool.
Tom Clarke, who impressed after coming off the bench, will deputise again if Peltier is unavailable.
Clark said: "It's obviously frustrating for the lads that are out of the side but they have to be ready to take their opportunity when it comes. If they come into the side and do well they will keep the jersey."
