Tranmere Rovers v Leeds United: Bromby insists title triumph still target

LEIGH BROMBY says Leeds United still have their sights set on gaining promotion from League One as champions.

Despite winning only two of their last 11 league games, defender Bromby is optimistic that Leeds, currently second in the table, will overhaul leaders Norwich City.

Leeds play their game in hand on the Canaries tonight, against lowly Tranmere Rovers, and victory would reduce the gap to four points while extending the lead over third-placed Charlton Athletic to five points.

"Teams aren't going to give up against us, we have to earn the wins, but we want to go up as champions," he said.

"We were disappointed to draw at home (to Brentford at the weekend) because we are looking to win every game.

"I thought we looked sharp and solid and were a bit unlucky with their goal. It was a bit sloppy and we have to eradicate that."

Manager Simon Grayson has a number of injury doubts ahead of the trip to Prenton Park.

Shane Lowry (knee), Richard Naylor (thigh) and Mike Grella (foot) all missed Saturday's game and Andrew Hughes had to be substituted due to illness.

Marlon Broomes and Paul McLaren are expected to feature for Tranmere after suffering during Saturday's impressive 2-1 home win over Southampton.

Defender Broomes – who scored in the triumph over a Saints side who had slaughtered Huddersfield Town four days earlier at St Mary's – cut and bruised a toe while midfielder Paul McLaren was feeling the effects of a chest infection.

Last six games: Tranmere LWDWLW, Leeds DLDWDD.

Last time: Tranmere 2 Leeds 1; December 6, 2008; Championship.

Referee: RL Shoebridge (Derbyshire).
