Tranmere Rovers 0 Huddersfield Town 2: Town's travels reap another three points
QUICKFIRE Huddersfield Town ran up a third success on the road in a week at perishing Prenton Park last night with a comprehensive win over Tranmere.
Quicksilver striker Lee Novak struck seven minutes into the game and again three minutes into the second half as Lee Clark's side extended their unbeaten run to 10 games.
Captain Peter Clarke had to make a superb tackle to deny striker Marvin Sordell when a clearance deflected back into Town's box.
The visitors then settled quickly into their passing game and Jordan Rhodes was unfortunate to see a volley from Danny Drinkwater's pass deflected narrowly wide.
The corner produced a breakthrough, however, Novak's header from Gary Roberts's flag kick being knocked out by a defender which saw the 21-year-old get a second bite.
Goalkeeper Luke Daniels clawed away Novak's second header but from behind the line.
Eager Town showed a hunger for possession while Tranmere struggled in the final third, Peter Clarke and his fellow defenders proving a strong barrier in front of goalkeeper Alex Smithies.
Tranmere goalkeeper Daniels was helpless to prevent Novak making it 2-0. Moments after Smithies kept out a fierce-angled shot by Sordell, Peter Clarke's through ball was latched onto by Novak who sped clear of Ian Goodison on an angled run and fired in an incisive shot.
He should have had a hat-trick in the closing minutes but he drilled his shot into the body of Daniels.
