Tributes to former Leeds United and Sheffield United striker Len Browning
FORMER Leeds United and Sheffield United striker Len Browning has passed away at the age of 80.
He was the top scorer at Elland Road in both the 1948-49 and 1950-51 seasons before moving to Bramall Lane in a 12,000 deal in November 1951 where he went on to help the Blades win the Second Division championship before his career was cut short by tuberculosis.
In later years, Browning, who also repsented Yorkshire at table tennis, worked for Leeds as the club's video analyst and served under a host of managers including Howard Wilkinson, David O'Leary and Peter Reid. His funeral will take place at St Matthew's Church, Chapel Allerton, Leeds, at 11am on Monday.
United, meanwhile, will today discover their punishment after pleading guilty to a charge of using an unlicensed agent when buying Antony Elding from Stockport County.
The Football Association charged Leeds earlier this month and the club, who have stressed no illegal payments were made or have alleged to have been made to agent Lorenzo Paolo, asked for a personal hearing that will take place today.
Elding has since left Elland Road to join Crewe Alexandra after making just nine appearances for United.
