Yeovil 1 Leeds United 1 - Leeds fail to make most of Becchio
LUCIANO Becchio, the striker from the Spanish Second Division, made an explosive impact when Gary McAllister brought him into his starting line-up for the first time.
After 30 seconds, in the first attack of the match, he made Yeovil captain Terry Skiverton look pedestrian as he carved out an opening for his left-foot, and an exquisitely placed drive inside Asmir Begovic's left post deserved 10 out of 10 for execution.
Unfortunately for manager McAllister, the Whites were unable to build on that start, although Becchio was always a handful and on the day outshone last season's 20-goal man Jermaine Beckford.
"He worked hard and showed what he is capable of with that goal," said McAllister. "He needs some more games but hopefully it is the start of a partnership that can score goals."
However, Yeovil – the bookies favourites to go down – have not yet lost this season and despite losing three players to hospital, bounced back to save a point.
The equaliser came on 61 minutes when the Glovers were awarded their first penalty for two years.
Paul Huntington pushed Paul Warne in the back, earning him one of eight bookings from unimpressive referee Dean Whitestone.
Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Lloyd Owusu, a 14th-minute substitute following the first of Yeovil's injuries, saw his kick well saved by Casper Ankergren, diving to his left, but the goalkeeper failed to hold onto the ball and Owusu got to the rebound first and made no mistake second time.
"If anything we deserved to go on and win", said Yeovil manager Russell Slade. "For about 15 minutes we ran Leeds ragged, but although it was a good story, we couldn't quite turn it into an epic."
