Rotherham United have confirmed the signing of Tunisian international defender Aimen Belaid.
Belaid joins the club on a permanent basis from Hungarian side Levski Sofia.
The 27-year-old can play in central defence, at left-back or on the left-side of midfield, and is regarded as technically able when on the ball.
Millers manager Neil Redfearn revealed that Belaid is a player who has been coveted by a number of sides across the British Isles.
He said: “He’s somebody that has been on the radar for a while. There have been one or two discussions with the head of recruitment Gee Evans.
“He is somebody that has been brought to our attention. There are lots of clubs that have expressed an interest in England and Scotland. When it looked like he would become available, in the area we need to strengthen, then he was perfect.
“He is the right age, he is right in the middle of his career. He is very athletic, he has pace, he is naturally left-footed which gives you balance.
“Left footed centre-backs are like hen’s teeth, difficult to get a hold of. He fills one or two roles. He can play left-back, centre-back, left-midfield. He is comfortable in possession.”
Belaid has penned a two-and-a-half year deal with the Millers.
