NINE-MAN Rotherham dropped out of the League Two play-off places after a Billy Kee double saw Burton Albion ease to a comfortable win at the Pirelli Stadium.
Afterwards, a furious Millers boss, Steve Evans, said he planned to report referee Eddie Ilderton.
The latest Millers’ defeat leaves them ninth in the standings, a point behind Southend who occupy the seventh and last play-off spot.
Wins for Fleetwood and Northampton at against Torquay and Rochdale repsectively were enough to edge Evans’s side out of the top seven.
Kee’s goals, the first coming in the 36th minute before he doubled the home side’s lead in the 55th minute, saw the Brewers move into automatic promotion places.
On what proved to be a miserable afternoon for the visitors, David Noble picked up a second yellow card just before the break for a foul on Jacques Maghoma
The Millers were reduced to nine men when in the 87th minute Michael O’Connor stood on Maghoma. But Michael Symes’s resulting penalty was saved by Andy Warrington.
“The referee was totally, obnoxious rude and embarrassing to me and my staff throughout the match and at half-time,” said Evans.
“I will speak to the Football Association on Monday. We will do it properly, as we are obliged to do, but I have to say that the words he used staggered every one of us.”
