Rotherham United v Walsall: Forward thinking is key for Millers chief

PAUL WARNE is pledging to leave '˜no stone unturned' in Rotherham United's quest to boost their striking numbers.

In-form Millers forward Kieffer Moore may be the joint front-runner in the current League One goalscoring charts with six goals so far in 2017-18, but Warne is acutely aware of the need for an insurance policy, with targetman Jamie Proctor out until April with a serious knee injury.

Warne said: “I am watching someone. We are always looking. If something happened to Kieffer, we would have to get someone in.

“Would I sign someone now and bring them in? Possibly not. It’s a case of needing to know that, if something happens, there is someone I could go and grab.

“We are looking everywhere. We leave no stone unturned. I am checking out potential targets all the time. I have three recruitment people looking at three games a day at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Warne believes that Saturday’s last-gasp hero Richie Towell will play a big part in the weeks and months ahead after marking his home debut with a late winner against Bury.

On his hopes for the Brighton loan midfielder, pushing for his first start tonight, Warne added: “I have brought him in as an attacking midfielder. I thought we lacked a bit in the middle of the park. We needed more of an attacking threat.

“He did well when he came on against Bury. He will play a big part in the games ahead.”
