'˜Outcast' Scott Allan could find himself back in favour at Rotherham United

Allan, on a season-long loan from Celtic, was recently told by Warne that he had no future with the Millers and gave the green light for his representatives to try to find him another club.

With the 25-year-old attacking midfielder having not featured for his parent club so far this season, he could technically return to Parkhead and be sent out on loan again.

But weekend developments have suggested he may yet stay put in South Yorkshire. After catching the eye of Warne in training, Allan was named in the match-day squad for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle United as a reward for his recent performances and attitude in training and entered the fray with 15 minutes to go.

Allan’s appearance was his first for the Millers in just over three months since October 15 and he showed flashes of promise in his brief cameo to provide boss Warne with some food for thought, with his display representing one of the tangible positives despite a comprehensive loss on Tyneside.

The Millers boss has hinted that if the Scot can hone the defensive aspects to his game, then he may be handed opportunities to shine on an extended basis.

Warne, whose side welcome near-neighbours Barnsley at the weekend, said: “I thought he (Allan) was good.

“I had him in training last week and I thought he was the most exciting. He has the confidence and know-how to get on the ball.

“I told him that he did well, but he needs to know the other side of the game as well. I am not criticising him for that, he has had a different upbringing to me, but he needs to learn the other side.”
