Bristol Rovers v Sheffield United: We want promotion for the fans '“ Alan Knill

IF SHEFFIELD United's management team of Chris Wilder and Alan Knill needed any reminder of just what they are striving to achieve this season, it was provided by four thousand people on Saturday.

A huge Blades travelling support descended upon Peterborough and the ecstatic scenes at the final whistle following Billy Sharp’s late winner were joyous to witness, according to Blades No 2 Knill.

It was scenes like those that Knill and Wilder will have envisaged creating when they arrived at the Blades’ helm last summer.

Wilder is a lifelong Blade and Knill lives in Sheffield and knows just how desperate the red and white half of the city are for promotion after several seasons in the comparative wilderness, so both realise it would be special if they can assuage that desperation.

Knill said: “When we took the job, we knew what goes with it. You have to achieve.

“It is good when four thousand supporters turn up to watch you at Peterborough. I know we went onto the pitch at the end, it was unbelievable.

“You just want to do it really for them. I live in the city, so I know what it is like to be a Sheffield United supporter.

“We are just pleased that, at the moment, it seems to be going well and everyone is enjoying themselves. But we also know there is a long way to go and are not looking further ahead than Bristol Rovers (tonight).”
