Sheffield United were plunged into deep relegation trouble at Gresty Road after crashing to a 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Crewe.
On-loan Arsenal midfielder Chuks Aneke blasted a first-half double before substitute Byron Moore added a late close-range third.
United manager Nigel Clough said: “We’re just at a little bit of a loss. We don’t know where that came from today - the first 45 minutes especially.
“I’m incredibly disappointed with the result.
“In the second half we had a go, but if you waste 45 minutes of the game you don’t really deserve anything from it.”
Defeat leaves United just one place ahead of bottom-placed Stevenage in League One.
