NIGEL ADKINS will start competitive life in the Sheffield United dug-out at Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium on August 8 - with the Blades given a distinctly unglamourous League One opener to 2015-16.

Adkins’ first league clash at Bramall Lane comes seven days later against the side who the Blades ended their regular home season against last season - in near-neighbours Chesterfield, who visit S2 on August 15.

United face an early visit to the side who knocked them out of the play-offs last term in Swindon, with Adkins’s side heading to Wiltshire on August 29.
