FT Sheffield United 2 Preston 1: Evans double breaks 20-goal barrier

CHED Evans scored twice and missed a penalty as Sheffield United came from behind to strengthen their grip on second spot in League One, writes Ian Appleyard.

The Blades had been trailing to a Graham Cummins header when Evans equalised shortly before halftime.

The Welsh international had wasted an earlier opportunity to score from the spot but his weak shot was saved by goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann.

Evans struck the winner seven minutes before the end when lashing an unstoppable drive into the roof net at a corner.

The victory moves the Blades five points clear of third placed Sheffield Wednesday with two games in hand.

Midfielder Kevin McDonald, meanwhile, limped off with a pulled hamstring and could miss next weekend’s Steel City derby.
