After Kyle Vassell had missed a penalty inside the opening 10 minutes, Billy Sharp put the Blades on the front foot with his 20th goal of the campaign.

Abu Agogo drew the hosts level soon after the break but Che Adams’s low strike from the edge of the box on 66 minutes proved to be the turning point.

George Long kept out Vassell’s spot-kick on eight minutes after Sullay Kaikai’s cross was handled by Blades’ captain Jay McEveley.

Sharp put Blades ahead as he picked up the ball from Paul Coutts before crisply firing into the bottom corner.

The Shrews pinched an equaliser soon after the re-start. Kaikai pulled the ball back to find the run of Ogogo, who bundled home in the bottom corner for 1-1.

But the crucial moment came on 66 minutes as Che Adams struck his 12th goal of the campaign to seize the win.
