Promoted Sheffield Wednesday release six, with Johnson and Bywater set to stay

Jermaine Johnson looks to be staying at Hillsborough.

Jermaine Johnson looks to be staying at Hillsborough.

Dave Jones has released four players from Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion-winning squad, with a further two young players also heading out of Hillsborough.

Former Republic of Ireland striker Clinton Morrison is the headline departure, while Jon Otsemebor and Chris Sedgwick have also been told they can leave.

Goalkeepers Richard O’Donnell and Sean Cuff will not have their contracts renewed and neither will Vadaine Oliver.

It means Jones is likely to be opening negotiations for new contracts for winger Jermaine Johnson, defender Mark Beevers and goalkeeper Stephen Bywater.
