Sheffield Wednesday 2 Yeovil Town 1: Megson blasts Owls’ ‘insipid’ first half

GOALS from Jermaine and Reda Johnson saw Sheffield Wednesday battle back to grab a Hillsborough win in the snow.

Wednesday manager Gary Megson made two changes for today’s home game against Yeovil.

Loan signing John Bostock started for the first time in midfield and there was also a recall for winger Jermaine Johnson.

Chris Sedgwick was axed and Lewis Buxton dropped to the bench.

The Owls trailed to a breakaway goal from the visitors five minutes before the break.

Jonathan Obika raced away to fire low inside Stephen Bywater’s left-hand post.

The Owls equalised in the 56th minute, Jermaine Johnson blasting home from 25 yards with a stunning effort.

And the hosts were ahead on 78 minutes when Reda Johnson fired home inside the penalty area from a Lewis Buxton free-kick.

Megson said: “It was an insipid first half from our point of view. We played OK but we didn’t do the running like we normally do and that was disappointing.

“We had to improve in the second half and thankfully we did. When we get the stats back on Monday, I would be surprised if anyone worked harder than Reda Johnson and Jermaine Johnson.

“But the work rate did get better after the break and we got what I thought we deserved, which was three points.”
