Sheffield Wednesday confident Callum McManaman will make Brighton clash

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY head coach Carlos Carvalhal remains confident that recent signing Callum McManaman will be available for Friday night's crunch game at high-flying Brighton - despite missing training today with illness.

The Scouse wingman will be assessed in training tomorrow ahead of the trip south, but Carvalhal believes that he will be fine.

The Portugeuse admits he is pleased with the general injury situation, with the club being afforded a 'better panorama' with Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, Urdy Emmanuelson and Almen Abdi in training.

On McManaman, Carvalhal, who revealed that midfielder Filipe Melo has joined Paços de Ferreira on loan in his native Portugal, with the Owls chief hoping to also loan out several other players not in his plans, said: "Callum was sick today. If he trains okay tomorrow, we will forget it.

"We hope that he can train with us. He trained yesterday and today he was sick. We will see if he improves or not, but he will probably be okay."
