SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are prepared to smash their record transfer fee to land Fulham’s Ross McCormack who is believed to be the subject of an £11.5m bid.
Wednesday also on Friday completed the free-transfer signing of Scotland international Steven Fletcher, who was released by Premier League side Sunderland at the end of last season.
The Owls are thought to have made a £10m bid for McCormack back in January and are now prepared to up the ante in their quest to land the 29-year-old who was sold by Leeds United for £11m in July 2014.
Fulham are understood to be willing to sell but value the Scottish international at £12m.
The Cottagers have rarely looked like mounting a promotion bid in the two seasons since McCormack’s arrival but the prolific striker still netted 23 goals last term and 19 in 2014-15.
Wednesday’s current record transfer fee paid is the £4.5m paid for Paolo Di Canio to Celtic in August 1997.
Scotland international Fletcher joins Wednesday on a four-year deal.
He scored 23 goals in 108 appearances for Sunderland after joining from Wolves for £12m in 2012.
The 29-year-old ended last season on loan with French side Marseille, scoring twice in 14 appearances.
He has won 28 caps for Scotland since 2008.
Fletcher started his career with Hibernian, scoring 52 times in 189 games to set up a £3m transfer to Burnley in 2009, before signing for Wolves after one season at Turf Moor.
