Sheffield Wednesday have revealed they are to hold talks with disgraced striker Gary Madine, following his release from prison.

Madine, aged 23, was freed today - and has turned to Twitter to express his regret at ‘letting people down’.

He was jailed for 18 months after he was found guilty of knocking two men unconscious in separate nightclub attacks in Sheffield.

The footballer, who was an Owls striker at the time, was found guilty of attacking Daniel Beresford in the Paris Bar in February 2012, and four weeks later attacking Reece Hall in the Viper Rooms.

He was convicted him of causing Mr Beresford actual bodily harm and causing Mr Hall grievous bodily harm.

Madine broke Mr Beresford’s nose and shattered Mr Hall’s cheekbone.

Today, after serving four months of his 18-month jail term, Madine said: “Thanks for all the nice messages, I’m sorry for letting so many people down.”

“Can’t wait 2 get back training, feel stronger than ever.”
