Title remains out of reach for Doncaster

Fortunately for them, Plymouth could only draw and are two points behind with two games to play.

Rovers fell behind after nine minutes as Luke O’Nien headed home but equalised nine minutes later, with Alfie May seeing his deflected cross loop over the head of goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Wycombe regained the lead in the 32nd minute, with O’Nien grabbing his second as he volleyed past Ian Lawlor after the Doncaster defence had failed to clear a cross from Joe Jacobson.

John Marquis and Mathieu Baudry were close to equalising but Dominic Gape hit the bar late on for the hosts.

Rovers chief Darren Ferguson saw his side lose for the second game in a row for the first time this season and said: “I’m extremely disappointed with the result and with the performance. Wycombe thoroughly deserved the win. The players have had a lot of praise thrown at them and now we could end up stumbling over the line. Every point is massive for me.

‘That’s the first time we’ve had back-to-back defeats. The performance was miles away – it was really disappointing. We were nowhere near good enough in both boxes.”
