Swedish international Larsson was restricted to just five Premier League starts on Wearside last season and his agent admitted in April that he would have almost certainly left Sunderland if they had been relegated, with the player having only 12 months remaining on his contract.

The smart money is on Larsson’s future still being elsewhere, but for the time being he is concentrating on his international commitments with Sweden and will re-assess his club future following the Euro 2016 tournament.

But despite speculation, Leeds have not got in touch with Sunderland, according to reports.

Leeds remain on course to complete the signing of Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson but the club are holding off on a move for Oxford United’s Kemar Roofe after being told that the forward will cost them £3m.

Antonsson is to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with Leeds after United agreed a fee with his current club Kalmar.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes is rumoured to have been offered to a number of Championship clubs this summer - with one of the clubs contacted being Sheffield Wednesday, where his father Andy works as goalkeeping coach.

Other possible reported destinations could be Aston Villa and Norwich.

Rhodes signed for Boro on the last day of the transfer window for £11 million, after the Teessiders elected not to sign Ross McCormack, rumoured to be Aitor Karanka’s number one target.

Boro are being strongly linked with Atlanta’s Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon.

Hull City are set to announce their first signing of the summer with a deal to bring teenage AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Will Mannion to the club close to completion.

The 18-year-old was in East Yorkshire on Monday to have a medical with the Tigers and his move should be confirmed this week.

Liverpool and Stoke City have also been linked with Mannion, chosen for the England U18s squad this year, with the highly-rated keeper having turned down a deal to stay with the promoted Wombles.

The Tigers have been in discussions with the Dons regarding a compensation fee for the player, likely to feature in the club’s development squad in 2016-17.

Burnley have been linked with a potential move for Sheffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees, with the Clarets star centre-half Michael Keane on the radar of Everton, while champions Leicester City have seen a £10m bid for his services rejected.
