Transfer gossip (Weds, Aug 24): Tigers move for Spurs international | Huddersfield seek cover | Millers and Bradford battle for striker

HULL CITY are targeting a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason - as they desperately seek to bolster their options ahead of the weekend game with Manchester United.

The Tigers have reportedly tabled a bid for England international Mason, down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, although no deal has yet been struck, with Spurs rating the player in the £10m bracket.

Hull coach Stephen Clemence refused to comment on the situation after Tuesday night’s 3-1 EFL Cup win at Exeter, but did state that the club are keen to make signings before the weekend.

He said: “We are working hard still. People are constantly on the phone trying to do stuff. I know there’s been some bids that are active this week but I don’t know if those have moved further.

“We are hoping we can get some signings in before the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Abel Hernandez - who missed the victory at Exeter due to a slight groin niggle - continues to be strongly linked with a move to Aston Villa.

The Midlanders are working hard to land the Uruguayan striker ahead of next Wednesday’s transfer deadline, but Hull are intent on keeping the forward.

Huddersfield Town are poised to sign highly-rated Charlton Athletic left-back Tareiq Holmes-Dennis - who worked with Town first-team coach Andy Hughes during his time at the Valley.

Town head coach David Wagner wants to bring in the 20-year-old to provide competition for Chris Lowe, with Jason Davidson having departed for Dutch side FC Groningen on loan.

Holmes-Dennis is contracted with Charlton until the summer of 2018.

Rotherham United are keen on bringing West Ham defender Reece Burke back to Yorkshire.

The talented 19-year-old is widely expected to continue his evolution on loan at a Championship club following his outstanding campaign at Bradford City last term.

Burke played 36 times and won the Bantams’ Player of the Year award, after making five Premier League appearances for the Hammers in 2015.

Now he could return to the area, with the Millers wanting to add him to their defensive numbers.

Meanwhile, Bradford have joined Rotherham in the race for in-demand Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong.

The Geordie forward fired 20 goals on loan for Coventry City last term, with Bradford having switched their attentions to the 19-year-old after ending their interest in Mansfield’s Matt Green.

A host of other clubs, including Coventry, are also keen.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly keen on Argentine left-back Leonel Bontempo, 23, after seeing a move for Aston Villa’s Joe Bennett flounder.

Sheffield United want to bring in Millwall defender Bryon Webster ahead of next week’s deadline, with Wigan midfielder Ryan Colclough also on Chris Wilder’s shopping list.

The Blades have reportedly bid for Yorkshire-born Webster, who signed a new two-year deal with the Lions earlier this month.
