The Bermudan frontman was a key part in Huddersfield's promotion from the Championship last season but has fallen down the pecking order at the John Smith's Stadium following the arrival of record signing Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre.

Hull are hoping to bring in extra cover up front following the injury to key striker Abel Hernandez but face competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the pursuit of Wells.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield have confirmed their interest in Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom is over.

Rotherham United are interested in a loan move for prodigious Sheffield Wednesday talent George Hurst.

Hurst has been the subject of intense interest during the summer window having impressed in Wednesday's Under 23s squad last year.

The Owls have reportedly turned down a £1 million bid from Premier League side Leicester City for the young striker.

A move to Rotherham would be Wednesday's preferred option in their attempts to nurture his talent and retain his services.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal said: "George has a lot of clubs interested in him - teams from League One and League Two,

"We will choose the best option for him but it is something that is not in my hands."I talked with him last season and told him the best way to move forward this season was to play in League One or League Two and play often. It's absolutely open, I know Rotherham are interested in him but a lot of clubs are."

Meanwhile, Rotherham are close to signing a centre-back before Saturday's trip to Peterborough.

Leeds United have moved ahead of Sheffield Wednesday in the race to sign Brentford defender Harlee Dean.

Dean is in the final year of his contract at Griffin Park and the Bees are reportedly willing to cash in on their captain.

Leeds are short of options at centre-back and have set their sights on the 26-year-old.

A deal for Chelsea youngster Jordan Houghton to return to Doncaster Rovers on loan has been agreed in principle.

Midfielder Houghton, 21, made 32 league appearances while on loan with Rovers last season before suffering a cruciate injury in February.
