The Minstermen host National League leaders Lincoln City in the FA Trophy semi-finals looking to build a first-leg lead to take to Sincil Bank for the return on Saturday.

Danny Cowley’s Imps are enjoying a fine season, sitting five points clear of the chasing pack and having become the first non-League team to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for more than a century.

York, though, are determined to upset the odds over two legs and book a third appearance for themselves in the Trophy final since 2009.

“We are up against a team that is absolutely flying this season,” said manager Mills, whose visits to Wembley as a player and manager run into double figures.

“But we have taken a lot of confidence and belief from our games lately. We have built up a strength and confidence that we can go win any game we play in. If we don’t win, we don’t lose.

“Lincoln might make changes, whatever they decide to do is down to them. But they won’t change the way they play. It is all about us and how we go about our game.

“We played particularly well at their place (in drawing 1-1 a fortnight ago after taking the lead through Jon Parkin). Lincoln will now they are in for a tough night, too.

“Whoever plays Lincoln is the underdog this season. Looking at the league, and where we are and where they are, that is obvious. But Lincoln know now that they are not playing the team that came to our place (in November) and scored four goals.”
