RUSS WILCOX has warned York City fans to strap themselves in and prepare for the roller-coaster that will be the League Two survival fight.

The Minstermen are one of eight clubs separated by just three points after back-to-back defeats combined with victories for several rivals last weekend concertinaed the bottom of the table.

York’s tough January continues today with a visit of second-placed Burton Albion and Wilcox is expecting another tough test for his side.

“Burton have lost just once in 11 league games so will come to us full of confidence,” he said. “But we have to be ready for that.

“We weren’t happy with our performance against Stevenage a week ago. Results elsewhere dragged us back in but that is what it is going to be like.

“For eight or nine teams, this is going to be like a roller-coaster ride. A couple of wins and they’ll look to be out of trouble but then a couple of defeats later and they will be back in it.

“This is a division where anyone can beat anyone else so we are going to have to get used to up and down weeks.”

In the away dugout today will be former Leeds United striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Wilcox said: “It is good to see when even the biggest of players are willing to take on jobs lower down and also take their coaching badges, which Jimmy is doing with my assistant Steve Torpey.”

Dave Winfield has been ill but new loan signing Malvind Benning could start at left-back.
