YP Power Rankings: Town still on top | Leeds top risers | Owls are slipping

Here’s the latest table:

1: Huddersfield Town (unchanged) LWLWDW.

Ten points already for surprise Championship leaders Town - it took until September 24 of last year for them to reach that milestone. If that is not a barometer of their progress, then nothing is.

Redoubtable Town are continuing to fight to the end, with Jonathan Hogg’s stoppage-time strike giving them the derby spoils against Barnsley following on from late goals against Newcastle United and Aston Villa and a decisive strike 12 minutes from time against Brentford. A good trait, that.

2: Bradford City (unchanged) DDLWWW.

City may have been handed the rub of the green in some respects after a poor first half against Coventry at the weekend. But sometimes, it is about finding way as Stuart McCall’s side did in the second half - firing home two penalties in a 3-1 win when three goals arrived in a nine-minute purple patch.

Bradford are unbeaten in the league in McCall’s ‘second coming’ with their spirit, character and tenacity coming to the fore. Impressive stuff.

3: Hull City (up one). WLWWWW.

After putting so much into their stunning victory over champions Leicester, Mike Phelan’s decimated Tigers provided a fine encore with a win at Swansea, which smacked of real character, togetherness and resilience.

Every individual in an amber-and-black jersey stepped up to the plate and did their bit, with the upshot being that Hull are level on points with the Manchester giants and Chelsea at the summit. Take a bow, Mike Phelan and all and sundry.

4: Middlesbrough (unchanged) DDDDDW.

Boro ended a run of 12 successive away defeats in the top-flight at the place where all Teessiders would have probably wished it to occur. Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. Two goals from Cristhian Stuani, which were both stunning in their own way, helped Boro claim their first win bonus of 2016-17 to consolidate a solid point against Stoke.

The Teessiders looked resolute at the back and possessed quality when it mattered going forward. A largely seamless transition so far.

5: Barnsley (down two) DDLWWL.

A crushing denouement at Huddersfield, but Barnsley should not feel too downhearted ahead of their second derby on the spin against Rotherham United. Memories of those late events at Town will be vanquished if they see off the Millers. Still a pretty impressive start from the Reds, who played their part in full at Huddersfield.

6: North Ferriby (up one) WDLLWW.

Victories arrive a bit like London buses. After edging out Guiseley, the Villagers followed up with another hard-earned home success over Torquay and their current position of 15th in the National League will do just nicely.

7: Doncaster Rovers (up one) DLLDWW.

It is amazing what a couple of wins do. After a keynote 1-0 success over Cambridge, Rovers backed up with a strong performance full of commitment and heart at Cheltenham, with John Marquis netting the only goal of the game again.

It was the sort of League Two prototype display that augers very well over the course of the nine-month slog in football’s basement.

Signs that Rovers are getting to grips with life at this level. Let us hope they just avoid any more injuries..

8: Leeds United (up two) LWLDWW.

Contrasting victories, for sure, but two away wins on the spin is not to be scoffed at.

Whisper it gently, but a difficult month is ending rather better for Leeds, who followed up an excellent derby victory at Hillsborough by edging out Luton in the EFL Cup, thanks to a memorable debut strike from Tyler Denton.

Garry Monk’s calculated gamble of changing 11 players paid off at Kenilworth Road and Leeds have a bit of momentum ahead of the weekend trip to the City Ground.

9: Sheffield Wednesday (down three) LWLDLL.

A few issues for Wednesday and Carlos Carvalhal after suffering back-to-back league defeats for the first time in nearly a year and only their second home loss at Hillsborough in just under 12 months - against Leeds of all teams.

The Owls have not yet truly get going and need to get the show back on the road at Brentford on Saturday.

10: Rotherham United (up one) LDLLLW.

Alan Stubbs has lift-off after his first victory as Rotherham chief and while Saturday’s narrow win over Brentford was not without its imperfections, it was a case of getting over the line by whatever way possible as the Millers claimed a huge three points against the Bees for the second time this calendar year.

They now make the short derby trip to Oakwell in renewed heart, for sure.

11: York City (down two) DDWDLL.

Another blow in the solar plexus for York at the minute, with Forest Green grabbing the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time in a 2-1 success, with a decent Minstermen performance ultimately yielding no points.

That said, York’s current position of 18th in the National League is not what the doctor ordered. Not the start to the new season that Jackie McNamara will have envisaged, with the Scot under a fair bit of early-season pressure.

12: Guiseley (unchanged) WLLLLLL.

A fraught start to the season ended with Mark Bower paying the price when he was sacked on Sunday after the Lions suffered their second gut-wrenching away defeat on the trot in cruel fashion as they conceded another late winner en route to a 3-2 reverse at Solihull Moors.

The baton has now been passed onto interim-manager Adam Lockwood, aiming to stop the rot after five successive league losses to start 2016-17. A huge home game with Bromley on Saturday.

13: Sheffield United (unchanged) LLLDLL.

Talk about kicking a team when they are down.

After a tough old start to the season for the Blades and Chris Wilder, a hard-earned point looked on the cards at an imposing venue in Millwall, only for an inexplicable handling offence by Jack O’Connell to enable Lions forward Steve Morison to secure a 2-1 win and ensure another bitter day for the Blades. Wilder would have been entitled to let out a scream..

The League One table makes for distinctly unpalatable reading for Unitedites.
