Andy Whitworth eases to Halifax-Huddersfield Union seniors' title at Meltham

HALIFAX Bradley Hall's Andy Whitworth shot a 74 at Meltham to win the Halifax-Huddersfield Union's seniors' championship.

Runner-up was Chris Mear (Halifax), who finished three shots back, while third place went to Huddersfield's Charles Webb with a 78.

Woodsome Hall's Godfrey Hall produced the best net score of 71 of 16 handicap, which also saw him triumph in the 70-plus net category.

Roger Matthews (Dewsbury & District) won the 55 to 59 net title with a 73 off six handicap.

Huddersfield's Robin Merchant placed first in the 55 to 59 net category with a score of 87-9-76.

Winner of the 65 to 69 age net flight was Eddie Casper (Outlane), who carded 74 off his handicap of 10.

Geoff Horrocks Taylor presented his trophy for the best three-player club aggregate to Huddersfield, whose counting scores came from Webb, Nick Wilson (80-6-74) and Jonny Hayes (81-6-75).
