The 18-year-old – who had already won the Yorkshire Boys’ and senior titles this year – beat England international David Hague (Malton & Norton) 3&2 in the final having got the better of English men’s amateur semi-finalist Nick Poppleton, of Wath, 5&3 in the penultimate stage.

Hague had won by two holes against George Muscroft in their semi-final match-up, the Otley man having ousted 2016 England Golf Boys’ Order of Merit winner Charlie Thornton (Fulford) in the last eight.

Yorkshire’s representatives Huddersfield placed 10th in the English Champion Club event at East Devon won by City of Newcastle for Northumberland.
