MALTON & Norton’s David Hague shot closing rounds of 62 and 63 to stride to an imperious 12-shot victory in the Lagonda Trophy at Gog Magog, near Cambridge.

After opening scores of 71 72, the Yorkshire county player accelerated to the finish line by playing the closing day’s 36 holes in 17 under par.

By doing so he added his name to a trophy already bearing inscriptions denoting wins by Ryder Cup players and global tournament winners Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.

Hague has been in excellent form throughout the year, and in February beat a field that included almost 30 professionals to lift a title on the Evolve Pro Tour in Spain.

He placed second in the prestigious West of England stroke play championship at Saunton last month, and currently leads the 2017 Yorkshire Order of Merit after following a third-place finish in the Lindrick Open with victory in the York Rose Bowl.

Last weekend he won his singles match as Yorkshire began their defence of the Northern Counties League title with a victory over Cheshire at Ganton.
