STEVE MARTIN followed on from his recent success in the West End Trophy with another convincing win, this time in Halifax West End GC’s scratch club championship.
Firm favourite Martin returned a 36-hole aggregate of three-under 135 with rounds of 66 and 69 to take the salver by eight shots from Chris Ingham on 143 (71 72).
Martin has now won the Scratch Salver a record 11 times.
Matthew Godfrey finished third with a 145 total (74 71).
John Mellor lifted the Handicap Cup when he returned a fantastic score of 64 net to win by four shots from Mark Boardall.
Steve Ambler (81 13 68) placed third.
Lee Shaw had head professional Darren Arber to thank for guiding him towards success in Division Two of the monthly medal.
Throughout the day Arber was running a ‘Discovery Day’ for members to find out their swing data along with advising which ball is best suited to their swing speed.
Lee took advantage of this free fitting, changing his golf ball and then shooting a net 66.
Mark Sheldrake won Division One, also with a net 66. Both now move forward to the Medal Final which takes place on Saturday, September 19.
Over 120 people took part with tricky, blustery conditions providing a stern test.
