MATT EVANS led Sheffield to a Yorkshire Inter District Union double as they followed their league triumph with victory in the six-man championship.

Evans carded rounds of 68 and 67 at Bingley St Ives – the best 36-hole aggregate of any of the competitors – as Sheffield won by four shots from York.

He was backed up by Nick Poppleton (70 70), Nathan Fell (71 74), Jamie Harrison (73 74), Neil Stones (76 76) and Jordan Perry (80 81).

Former Yorkshire champion Julian Taylor, who was only denied successive titles at Fulford last month by Jamie Bower, was York’s lowest scorer with rounds of 72 and 67.

They finished 13 shots ahead of third-placed Leeds, for whom Ben Hutchinson produced scores of 69 and 71.
