Last year the club invested heavily in the course with an upgrade to the irrigation system and new drainage on many of the greens.

The latest investment has seen the total refurbishment of the club house providing first-class facilities for members and the ability to host social functions in the newly expanded banqueting area.

Jimmy Greaves, Shipley GC president, said: “We’ve been planning the refurbishment for some time and all the committee agreed that if we are to become one of Yorkshire’s finest golf clubs then we need first-class facilities to put us in to the top tier.

"The new facilities will enable us to host functions together with a specific bar area in the newly created Beckfoot Suite. We can now host private functions from four people up to 120 with in-house catering provided by our two permanent chefs. All golf clubs are going through challenging times and we’re hopeful that the investment we’re making now will secure the future of the club for generations to come.”

Former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe said: “Many sports clubs have been struggling financially so it’s good to see Shipley Golf Club diversifying their facilities and investing for the future.

"They are also launching a promotion to encourage women to play golf, which includes classes, equipment and a taster membership – everything needed to make the game more inclusive and accessible to all.”

Originally called the Shipley and Saltaire Golf Club it was formed in 1896 at an augural meeting of just 30 members and located at Moorhead in Shipley.

The club moved to its current location in 1921 and Dr Alister MacKenzie was appointed to design the new 18-hole course.
