Yorkshire golf: Lindrick's Bailey Gill takes command over Bernard Darwin Salver field

LINDRICK'S Bailey Gill takes an imposing 10-shot lead into the second and final day of the Bernard Darwin Salver at Rye, in Sussex.

The Welsh Open Youths’ champion shot successive rounds of three-under-par 65 to take command in the prestigious Under-21 event.

Gill is continuing his recent fine form having placed seventh in the Portuguese International Amateur Championship and reached the last 16 in the Spanish International Open Championship.

His clubmate Nathan Fell is in a tie for 11th place after rounds of 75 and 71.

Two shots further back is Huddersfield’s Josh Morton (75 73) with Fulford’s Charlie Thornton – winner of England Golf’s Boys’ Order of Merit in 2016 – on 152 (74 78).

Howley Hall’s Tom North began with a 77 but slipped to an 82 in the afternoon.

The competition concludes with two further rounds on Wednesday.
