The winners scored 338pts, with Sheffield finishing on 331 and Leeds, in third, with 326.

Yorkshire Union president Jonathan Plaxton presented the trophy to York captain Josh Stead and told the competitors: “My thanks to all the junior co-ordinators. The work that is done by the Inter District Unions is part of what makes Yorkshire a great county and, indeed, English golf county men’s champions at the moment.”

A five-point haul on the 14th, thanks to a chip in for a two, helped Scarthingwell’s Harry Bramley take the prize for best boy. The York Union player finished with 38pts.

York Union of Golf Clubs president Neil Bellamy added: “Malton & Norton have been absolutely fantastic. This is an important tournament for mixed golf.

“It’s nice to beat Sheffield and they were very gracious in defeat. Hopefully, this will be a competition that will be replicated in the Sheffield region next year and we hope it will continue.

“We’ve had 72 junior players here – 36 boys and 36 girls. We hope next year to get a seventh Inter District Union team involved and possibly the eighth, which would be really great.

“The atmosphere around the club has been fantastic and the competitive spirit shown has been amazing.”
